We believe the Lord has raised up this ministry to preach the Message of the Cross, which of course is the New Covenant. The preaching of the Cross is next to non-existent in the churches today, which is horrifying to say the least. With that being said, Christians will not be able to live a life of victory, but will have failure dominating them at every corner of their walk as a believer. Faith in Christ and Him Crucified will give the believer the working and operation of the Holy Spirit in their lives, giving them victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil. (Romans 8:2)
After getting a shoulder injury from playing professional hockey, Mark Bassen decided to attend Bible college. Eventually, he and his wife, Laura, started what later became known as Crosswalk Chapel. One huge problem stared them in the face: they were dominated by sin. They had never really known the answer to this abundant life that God promises. The biggest and most defining moment in there life would come one night as Pastor Mark was praying with his friend, Robin Cupi. The church was growing and everything seemed to be going fine, until Robin had the courage to look the Pastor straight in the eyes and say, "Mark, you are on another page and following another gospel. You are not preaching the Message of the Cross." Naturally, Pastor Mark got angry and left Robin's house. On the drive home, the Lord began to show this new Pastor that what Robin said was worth searching out. Over the next few months, the Holy Spirit began to turn the hearts of the Bassen’s and ultimately the whole ministry back to the Truth of the Cross. Everything began to change as the ministers started seeing their own apostasy and the apostasy of the modern church as it is compared to the great and glorious Message of the Cross, which stands completely opposed to everything they had been taught.
In 2006, the idea of a TV show preaching the Message of the Cross was thought by most to be ridiculous. Four years and almost 300 shows later, the Lord proved His purpose by making the Message of the Cross heard in the central Illinois area. The 'Crosswalk' television program is currently airing in four cities: Rockford, Peoria, Quad Cities, and Springfield. As the Message of the Cross grew in our hearts, and realizing the apostacy of the modern church, we knew that the old path of simple faith in Christ and Him Crucified for salvation and sanctification must be preached.
